Stock runs at roughly 25–30% of total pay from 59 to 62 and climbs from there. Microsoft grants stock that vests over several years and adds yearly refresh grants for strong performers. Level 70 Salary in India
Level 70 sits at the very top of Microsoft's engineering ladder, above Principal (65–67) and the Partner levels (68–69). It's usually described as the Distinguished Engineer level. Above it there's only Technical Fellow, at 80.
We couldn't find enough reported Level 70 packages in India to give an honest average. Here's what the public data does show. Principal engineers at Level 67 in India have reported packages up to ₹2.57 crore a year on Levels.fyi, and one Level 80 report from India shows ₹2.74 crore. In the US, Partner-level pay runs into seven figures in dollars, most of it in stock.
In practice, very few engineers in India reach Level 70, and those who do usually arrive through internal promotion over 15–20 years. External hires at this level are rare and are negotiated one by one.

Microsoft Salary for Freshers
New grads join Microsoft India at Level 59, mostly through campus hiring at engineering colleges and the Microsoft careers site. Expect about ₹25–27 LPA in total, of which roughly ₹16 LPA is base. After tax and PF, that base works out to around ₹1.1–1.2 lakh a month in hand, with stock vesting on top.
The fresher loop is mostly coding. An online assessment comes first, then three or four interviews on data structures and problem solving, with some questions about your projects. Promotion from 59 to 61 usually takes about two years, and that move alone adds around ₹18 lakh a year on average.

Microsoft Salary for Experienced Engineers
Industry hires join Microsoft anywhere from Level 61 to 65, and the level they're mapped to is the real negotiation. The big gate is 62 to 63, where you become Senior SDE. That move is worth about ₹17 lakh a year on average, and internally it often takes several years.

From Level 63 up, system design carries most of the weight in the loop. At the end there's often an "As Appropriate" interview with a senior leader, who looks at whether you can own problems across teams. Weak design answers are the most common reason a senior candidate gets offered 62 instead of 63.
When you negotiate, ask which level the offer maps to before you discuss numbers. Base ranges inside a level are fairly tight, so the stock grant and sign-on bonus are where competing offers make the most difference.
